Before the launch of the India Interface for Money (BHIM) app by the hands of our Prime Minister Narendra Modi, dozens of people worked day and night for almost two months to make sure the app is made completely clean before making it live. Hence, it was already ensured by the team of developers that there are no breach, leaks and security Loopholes in the app. In this work, a dedicated team of cyber security company Lucideus Tech, which provided security to the NPCI Developed App, was engaged. How secure is BHIM App?
Sanket Modi, CEO of Delhi-based company Lucideus, says, “We really worked hard last week on BHIM app regarding its security. In the company, a team of over dozen tech. experts worked especially on this to make it more secure than ever and it has no breaches.” List of clients company of Lucideus includes ICICI Bank, Standard Chartered, Indigo, and KFC. On 31st December 2016, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) – based BHIM Mobile App for Android Devices only but now Bhim iOS App is also available.
It is notable that BHIM surpassed world famous app like Whatsapp, Facebook and Facebook Messenger in the list of ‘Top Free Apps’ in the Google Playstore in India.
Why is BHIM Hack and Loopholes free?
Saket said that his company has worked on the Cyber Security Assessment for the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) Common Library, so it was a natural choice for this app. The UPI Common Library has been linked to all the banks in their Net Banking app. Saket proves his point by telling that Security has been implemented at three levels.
Points that prove that BHIM is 100% Secure
- First of all, when the user first opens Bhim, it connects to his device ID and phone number. The user has to unlock the app and enter the PIN to enter it.
- Second, the bank and the app has the authentication of the mobile number of its registered user which is deposited with the KYC Form when opening the bank account. Authentication will be required for every transaction from the app and it will be through the UPA’s servers. PM Modi stated, “If someone makes a clone of your SIM or stole your phone and puts SIM in a new phone, even then he will not be able to do the transaction because he will not have your UPI pin.”
- Third, Lucideus’s team examined hundreds of app technical tests and tested it in many situations in which its security could be tampered with. For example, if you have a call during the transaction from Bhim and you give someone a call to attend the call, then after the call has stopped, you will have to enter the PIN again in the app. The aim of cyber security professionals is to estimate every attack and make it virtually tackled.
Hence, these points prove that the there is absolutely no vulnerability to the app and no one could break the security of Bhim app while sending money using BHIM App.
